    Barry Cooper System Admin

Barry has been with Ag Connections Inc. since December 2007.  He graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunication Systems Management with a special emphasis on system administration and network security. He’s experienced with many types of server hardware and software configurations, mostly focusing on Microsoft Windows platforms, but these days he’s utilizing his extensive background designing systems running Linux.

Specializing in diagnostics and repair on both desktops and servers, Barry frequently assists the support staff with technical issues arising both inside and outside the office.  He works with Paul Pitt to maintain the networks and servers that support Ag Connections’ staff and users of Ag Connections services and software.  He enjoys solving the complex issues that can arise in a networked environment as well as finding new ways to accomplish technical feats whether it’s through researching a new hardware or software product, or creating his own software solutions using his computer science background from Murray State.

Barry is always looking at new and emerging technologies to find ways to help systems and networks run smoother and provide a more safe, reliable user experience.  Virtualization technology is becoming a major fascination for Barry, and as technologies such as virtual desktop infrastructures, virtual servers, and cloud computing become more commonplace he maintains a watchful eye on the activity in the IT community.  “While virtual hardware is great, and there’s definitely a market for cloud-based services, we have to remember that many of these concepts are marketing-driven; the demand is being driven by those who want to be on the bleeding edge, and that’s great!  However the marketing spin doesn’t usually talk about the inherent security risks associated with de-centralized data centers.  As we’ve seen recently with some Fortune 500 companies, security is a concept that sometimes even large organizations with traditional networks have a hard time handling properly.  It pays to move forward, but cautiously.“
